CTET July Paper Pattern, Exam Scheme
The Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) follows a structured examination scheme designed to evaluate candidates’ teaching aptitude and subject knowledge. The exam is divided into two papers: Paper I and Paper II, each catering to different teaching levels. The CTET is conducted online using a computer-based test (CBT), ensuring a standardized assessment process.
Paper I (for classes I to V)
Paper I is designed for candidates who intend to teach at the primary level, covering classes I to V. This paper consists of multiple sections, each aimed at assessing different aspects of teaching knowledge and skills.
Child Development and Pedagogy: This section includes 30 questions worth 30 marks. It focuses on educational psychology, teaching-learning processes, and the understanding of children’s learning and development. The questions test candidates on concepts related to child growth, inclusive education, and pedagogical methods suited for young learners.
Language I: This section also comprises 30 questions, each worth 30 marks. Candidates choose a language they wish to teach, and the section assesses their proficiency in language pedagogy, comprehension, and communication. It evaluates the ability to teach language effectively to primary students.
Language II: Similarly, this section has 30 questions worth 30 marks and is in a language different from Language I. It evaluates reading comprehension, communication abilities, and pedagogical methods relevant to teaching the chosen language. This ensures that candidates are proficient in at least two languages.
Mathematics: This section includes 30 questions for 30 marks, testing mathematical concepts, problem-solving abilities, and pedagogical strategies for teaching mathematics to young children. The questions are designed to assess subject knowledge and the ability to impart mathematical understanding effectively.
Environmental Studies: This section also contains 30 questions worth 30 marks. It covers environmental education topics, incorporating science and social studies concepts relevant to primary education. This section evaluates the candidate’s ability to integrate environmental awareness into their teaching.
Overall, Paper I consists of a total of 150 questions, each contributing one mark to the total score, with a duration of 2 hours and 30 minutes.
Paper II (for classes VI to VIII)
Paper II is aimed at candidates who wish to teach at the elementary level, covering classes VI to VIII. This paper also includes multiple sections, each targeting different knowledge areas and teaching skills.
Child Development and Pedagogy: this section includes 30 questions worth 30 marks like Paper I. However, it is tailored for an older age group (11-14 years), focusing on educational psychology and teaching-learning processes suitable for elementary students. It tests concepts related to adolescent development, inclusive education, and effective pedagogical techniques.
Language I: This section consists of 30 questions for 30 marks, assessing proficiency in the chosen language. The focus is on language pedagogy, comprehension, and communication, ensuring candidates can teach language effectively at the elementary level.
Language II: This section also has 30 questions worth 30 marks and evaluates proficiency in a language different from Language I. It includes reading comprehension, communication skills, and teaching methodologies relevant to the second language, ensuring candidates’ versatility in language instruction.
Mathematics and Science or Social Studies/Social Science: This section includes 60 questions for 60 marks, and candidates can choose between two subject areas:
- Mathematics and Science: This option tests mathematical and scientific concepts, problem-solving skills, and teaching methodologies. It evaluates candidates’ ability to teach these subjects effectively to elementary students.
- Social Studies/Social Science: This option covers historical, geographical, and social concepts, along with appropriate pedagogical strategies. It assesses candidates’ knowledge and ability to teach social studies to older students.
Like Paper I, Paper II comprises 150 questions, each contributing one mark to the total score, and it lasts 2 hours and 30 minutes.
Common Features
The total marks for each paper are 150, with all questions being multiple-choice questions (MCQs). Each correct answer awards one mark. Each paper lasts 2 hours and 30 minutes, providing ample time for candidates to complete the exam. The online mode of examination ensures a fair and standardized assessment process.
